On Our Way to Cape May and Beyond

OOPS.     And so sorry.  BAR-B-Q has been traveling.  A quick update. Our tiny house on water has brought us safely down the Delaware Bay, anchored in Cape May (actually through the Cape May Canal) up the Atlantic coast, overnighted in Atlantic City, and Sunday night anchored behind Sandy Hook.  Thousands of people on the beach saw BAR-B-Q  making its way. I know because I saw Tens of thousands enjoying the the 'gorgeous' day. I wanted to post some pictures but I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. We left Sandy Hook early Monday morning.

In a few miles we met up with' River Ranger', piloted by a great couple, Greg and Helen from St. Paul, MN. They left their home last September, down the western rivers, (Mighty Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, to Mobile AL, to the Keys, and up the ICW. We have been communicating before they left, since we own similar vessels. These boats have many different systems to function. Anything can go wrong. "It's a boat". They have their own propulsion system, navigation, water, waste, electric, AC. So much to fail. Anyway, just by sharing some information about the tugs, we formed in great friendship, so much, we have been traveling together since.

We had fun in front of the Lady. The two tugs, at least 30 minutes, taking pictures. No one bother us.

The skyline has changed since year 2000, the last time I had a boat in NY Harbor. My son Jerry and I circled Manhattan Island twice.

The run up the Hudson was so enjoyable. What a great way to travel. We met other "loopers" at a marina about 25 miles north of the city. The next day we fueled up and traveled up and the tied up at a waterfront restaurant.

Actually, because of limited space we 'rafted' to River Ranger. The dock is free overnight if you eat there. After a good time and great food nothing beats the ritual cannonball off the fly bridge. Fun times!  Our next stop was Waterford, NY.  But first we must go through the Federal Lock at Troy. The locks are elevators for boats. After this lift, we have left tides and salt water.  It will be fresh water until we reach lower Alabama.

We arrived at Waterford. The docks were full. We tied to the wall. You move down to the docks as other vessels leave. For $15, two nights stay with power, water and restroom keys. We stayed the two nights. I don't know where the time goes. Time to move on.
We left early Sunday morning with a full lock of boats. These first flight of five locks lift the boats 169ft in 2 miles, the greatest lift in the shortest distance of any canal in the world.

Our day ended  just pass Lock 11, Amsterdam.

Our travels across the Mohawk River the next morning were rewarded with stunning reflections in the waterway.

                                                       River Ranger making ripples.

BAR-B-Q leaving Lock 17, the 'guilotine' , thanks Greg. We spent a few days in Ilion, NY, home of Remington Firearms, at their town dock. It's nice to just chill out for awhile with occasionally rain showers making for a gloomy day. All is good.
