The Canal Towns

Family visit                                                                 Our journey so far  Our trip across Oneida Lake went without worry. This shallow lake was calm this day.Passing under the I-81 bridge brought back memories. I went over it many times.  We stopped for fuel and a pump out on the other end of this lake. Our overnight stop was Lock 24, Baldwinsville or B'ville as the locals call it. We stayed 2 days in this village. One factor was weather another is we are in no hurry.  It was laundry day. We loaded the bags onto the wagon and headed to the local laundry. While waiting for the laundry, we stopped for breakfast at the B'ville diner. It's a retro diner set in the 50's. I had to try the meatloaf omelette, a first for me. Good choice, delicious. Wednesday we traveled 50+ miles , passing by the cut off that would take us to two of the finger lakes, Cayuga and Seneca.   We  stopped at

ON FIRE

Image
Last night on the wall. NO FIRE.  This pic shows our mast down to fit under the bridges on the Western  Erie.  This is our lighting when anchored. The lights reflect off the isinglass, or as Nancy says "plastic wrap". The VHF is angled also. The binimi should fit. But just to make sure, it will be in quick release mode.  We had a great visit with 2 of our kids. They brought needed parts and took back some extra stuff we were not using. They also returned Getty's ashes back home. My friend got his wish not to join us on our travels. I sure miss him.

Wait on the Wall

Departure day is now Monday. The kids and needed parts visit Sunday. No one has bothered us while tied up for days. Most free walls have 48hrs parking. Water and "Lights" free or small cost. Sylvan Wall has no power or water, although a nice "neighbor"let me fill my water tank. Good thing I had an extra 50' hose. 100ft hose barley made it from spigot to fill hole. This was a 2 person operation. Nancy did good catching the hose since it had to transverse a ditch. Having enough water is a happy wife. We made good use of our wagon.  I went on an ice run. I ended up with 70lbs at a good price. I gave away 15lbs. The ice is cubed, injected with a lot of air, so the cubes don't last very long. I'm looking for block ice. The ice is just for the beverages on board. We have a separate fridge and a separate freezer which handles our food and ice cream.                                                  Flowers in bloom along Main St Sylvan Beach

Another Travel Day

Ilion NY to Sylvan Beach, Ny about 40 miles We departed Ilion in the morning.  We locked through #19 and 20. Lock #21 was our first down lock. Instead of being raised up by the water, we were lowered. Lock #22 finished lowering us to Oneida Lake, near Syracuse. We are here until Saturday. Traveling is fun but down time is valuable. Please visit this blog site------h-gadventures.blogspot.com-------------. They have a great blog, especially  June 8, when we met up. They have great pics throughout their blog and one day I'll have the skills to do a daily update like they have been doing since last September. . It's Thursday, June 17 We are staying here at Sylvan Beach for several days. Come see us. It's  an easy drive to Syracuse. Give me a call.  Plan to depart Sunday, weather permitting.  Our friends, Greg and Helen--River Ranger-- are leaving in the morning, continuing their westward journey. It was a lot of fun traveling with them the last 9 or 10 days. Great pics with gre

On Our Way to Cape May and Beyond

OOPS.     And so sorry.  BAR-B-Q has been traveling.  A quick update. Our tiny house on water has brought us safely down the Delaware Bay, anchored in Cape May (actually through the Cape May Canal) up the Atlantic coast, overnighted in Atlantic City, and Sunday night anchored behind Sandy Hook.  Thousands of people on the beach saw BAR-B-Q  making its way. I know because I saw Tens of thousands enjoying the the 'gorgeous' day. I wanted to post some pictures but I'm still trying to figure this stuff out. We left Sandy Hook early Monday morning. In a few miles we met up with' River Ranger', piloted by a great couple, Greg and Helen from St. Paul, MN. They left their home last September, down the western rivers, (Mighty Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, to Mobile AL, to the Keys, and up the ICW. We have been communicating before they left, since we own similar vessels. These boats have many different systems to function. Anything can go wrong. "It's a boat"

A "Taste" of Home and Away

We departed Chesapeake City free docks and headed over to Havre-de-Grace.   We ended, up the Susquehanna, between I-95 and a very active RR bridge with very long trains.  The Susquehanna, with its headwaters at Cooperstown, yes that Cooperstown flows near our home in the Pittston Junction where the Lackawanna joins it. It was a nice spot although anchoring in current can be challenging.  I took the dingy the next day up river trying to make it to the dam. I did not succeed. The river that day looked like north of Harrisburg with all the rock and boulders strewed about. We departed for the Sassafras River that is across the bay. We traveled seven miles up river to  Georgetown Yacht Basin.  Our stop here extended into Monday evening. We were hoping the mechanic would stop by to check our engine but it didn't happen. It was a good stop anyway.. The marina let us use their van. Our house batteries needed replacement. These are four deep cycle AGM 's, the size of car batteries. We
